Inequalities

An inequality compares two expressions using symbols such as >>, <<, \ge, and \le. Solving an inequality means finding all values of the variable that make the statement true.

In this topic, you need to solve inequalities both analytically and graphically, including inequalities of the form g(x)f(x)g(x)\ge f(x) and modulus equations and inequalities.

Common symbols include:

  • x>3x>3 means xx is greater than 33.
  • x<3x<3 means xx is less than 33.
  • x3x\ge3 means xx is greater than or equal to 33.
  • x3x\le3 means xx is less than or equal to 33.

Solutions to inequalities are often written using interval notation or on a number line.
